The latest Earthquake in Nepal gave shivers to every Indian as well. Our neighborhood faced so much trauma in these days and so did Indians. The tremors sent high alert among all, and almost everybody was ready to pack and leave. But the best part was World saw countries coming together in support of Nepal and other countries where earthquake happened.
India being a close neighbor to Nepal also felt the aftershock, so here we are, alerting which are the most earthquake prone area in India, find out whether you stay there or not.
On the basis of the vulnerability, earthquake zones have been divided in to four under seismic zoning map of India.
ZONE 5 -It covers the areas with the highest risks zone that suffers earthquakes of intensity MSK IX or greater.
ZONE 4 -This zone is called the High Damage Risk Zone and covers areas liable to MSK VIII
ZONE 3 -This zone is classified as Moderate Damage Risk Zone which is liable to MSK VII. and also 7.8
ZONE 2 -This region is liable to MSK VI or less and is classified as the Low Damage Risk Zone.
From here you can classify under which zone your country falls.

1. Guwahati – Assam

Guwahati falls under the highest-risk Zone 5. Apart from being the abode of the most frequent and dangerous earthquakes, Guwahati in Assam has seen the most devastating ones too. The place has a history of the deadliest earthquakes and till today small tremors are a usual affair.

2. Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir)

Just like Guwahati, Srinagar also falls under the high risk seismic zone 5, and has huge dreadful threat of being tremor-ed with earthquake. The friction between the Indian and the Eurasian plane causes earthquakes to occur on the areas close to the Himalayas.

3. Bihar

Some portions of Bihar, especially North Bihar falls under the high risk zone where the vulnerability to get affected with earthquake is high.

4. Uttar Pradesh

Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh appear to be the most vulnerable states, with six cities each in earthquake-prone zones. Both the states have one city each under zone IV and five cities under zone III.

5. Gujarat

Gujarat has already been a witness to a terrible earthquake in 2011. Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh appear to be the most vulnerable states, with six cities each in earthquake-prone zones. Both the states have one city each under zone IV and five cities under zone III.

6. Delhi

The capital of India falls in the zone four of the seismic zone divisions in India. Delhi faces risk of suffering earthquakes of very high intensity. They, in turn, have the power to cause a lot of damage to the city and surroundings.

7. Mumbai – Maharashtra

Like Kolkata, Mumbai too is located on the coastal line, hence increasing its risk of facing tsunami-like disasters. Mild to strong, earthquakes are very common in parts of Mumbai. Mild earthquakes are often faced by people living there and parts of the adjoining regions of Gujarat. It falls in the zone four of the seismic zone divisions which makes it quite vulnerable to damage.

8. Chennai – (Tamil Nadu)

Tamil Nadu, had faced the wrath of the deadly 2004 tsunami when the Marina beach was affected. Another part of the state, its capital Chennai, faces high risk of earthquake. Even recently, in the year 2012, Chennai shook terribly to a rather high intensity earthquake (having its epicentre on the Indian Ocean). There are very few places down south which face high risk of earthquakes and Chennai is definitely one of them. The city, formerly in the comfort Zone 2, has now shifted to Zone 3 – indicating higher seismic activity.

9. Kolkata – West Bengal

West Bengal not only has the fear of earthquake but also, an accompanied tsunami since it lies near to the coastal region. Thus the damage can be high and very dangerous. Many regions of Kolkata and Bengal faced slight tremors in the recent earthquake horror. Due to over population, Kolkata faces high risk of damage for life and property.

10. Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, falls under the Moderate Damage Risk Zone which is liable to MSK VII. and also 7.8. In recent past also, the island have been a witness to earthquake and tsunami.
